December Poetry Challenge

Planted
Should have seen it coming. But I didn’t. Perhaps I did see it, but I denied it? It was one of those times when a person makes a split decision and takes a leap.
So, I humbly admit that I bit off more than I could chew by taking on Matthew’s challenge of writing one poem a day for the month of December.
The idea of living and breathing poetry sounded good at the time. My head was in the clouds for a few days; it was quite a ride.
However, business requires my attention and there is not enough time to sink into this creative space every day. I spend hours on each poem and thrive while doing it so I’m disappointed, but moving forward nonetheless with what needs to be done.
My love of writing poems was rekindled and there will be more poems when the lightning strikes and time allows; but not every day. Seeds have been planted.
THANK YOU to all of you who have stopped by to read and comment on each poem. That meant a great deal to me because I know how busy you all are.
You guys ROCK!
Matthew is still writing his poems. If you’re in the mood to read more, check out his latest poem called Burnt. It is amazing!

“business requires my attention and there is not enough time to sink into this creative space every day.” I can totally relate!

I love your honesty. Don’t forget to keep sharing the poems that do emerge… they’re bound to keep coming, esp now you’re not looking for them!

Davina,
…What Betsy said…
Quality trumps quantity any day. That is sparked your poetic side, though, that has made this all worth it…

There are too many crazy creative challenges running around there. Go for the weekly poem, write more only if you feel like it :)
We all do a juggling game with have-to’s and want-to’s and it’s tricky to get a good balance. If anything, you’ve realized that work hasn’t buried your artful creativity. That’s gotta make you feel good! Thanks so much for sharing it all with us, Davina. …your poetry and your teetering totter. Makes me feel like I’m not alone with my own! :)

You must feel great about rekindeling you love of writing poems. The first five poems were great. Your last one was a pretty good poem even though you were disappointed in it. When you force yourself to deadlines that can be unrealistic, it must take some of the joy out of writing. You have to look after your business and balance your time. I look forward to more poems in the future.
Hi Davina .. that’s good to know you’ll be back .. it was a tough assignment, but what you wrote was such fun. You’ll be jotting them down without thinking soon .. it’ll be 2nd nature ..
But ‘to business’ I agree is important inthe scheme of things – and at this time of year none of us need more stress .. and balancing all the things we need to do & keeping calm and peaceful .. is the most important.
Relax .. we’re here for you – I found this poem by chance:
How happy is he born and taught
That serveth not another’s will
Whose armour is his honest thought
And simple truth his utmost skill!

Hi Vered.
Yep… that creative space… quite a luxury these days. Guess shifting the creative gears into managing time is something at least ;)
Hi Betsy.
Thank you. I like that… “hang quantity”.
Hi Lori.
“One seed bears much fruit.” Yes!
Hi Joanna.
You’re right; that is usually the way isn’t it? :-)
Hi Lance.
Thank you. It was a good wave… the tide has just gone out. It will be back.
Hi Miguel.
I agree. And it’s easy to get caught up in these challenges when the muse wants to play.
Hi Julie.
“Teetering totter” :-) I like that. Makes me want to begin the challenge again, heh, heh. You and me… on the teeter totter… together we should be able to find some balance, if not have fun with the ride.
Hi Jim.
I do feel great about the inspiration that came through. Thanks. I know there will be more poems in the future.
Hi Hilary.
It was tougher than I thought it would be, I have to admit; wanting to keep up with reading and commenting at the same time was a lot to juggle. Keeping calm and peaceful is the order of the day… I’ll drink to that!
I love that poem! Thank you for sharing it here. :-D
Here here, do what you need to do…that is the joy of blogging.
I am going to cut down my posting schedule for the rest of the month because this December family comes first…just only so much time…
I can hardly wait for the next poem, that being said….you write so well and Thank you for your efforts so far…the Divine Miss Davina

Hi Patricia.
Awh, thank you. I can hardly wait for the next poem too :-) That’s a good idea to cut down on posting this month. I have a feeling most bloggers will be reading less too.
YOU totally rock!!
You gave it a wonderful go and offered up some gems.
Oh yeah, business — I remember that. :)

Hi Davina,
I totally understand where you’re coming from. Sometimes those “assignments” sound like fun, but we often forget about how they will eat into our day/time.
I know you have lots more poems in you, and I’m patient, so I’ll just wait until your ready to share again.
P.S. I read your newer post before this one and see you’ve had poetry in your blood for a long time…..

Hi Jannie.
Yay, Rock On! :-) Ever notice how lost that little “i” is in the word business?
Hi Barbara.
Oh boy… “eat into our day/time”… exactly! Oh to be wealthy and to NOT have to work for a living. Funny you should mention this; I may be posting some poems from over 20 years ago… just for fun.
