Breathing into Shades of Crimson
One breath.
The journal.
Start somewhere.
I am full. Thoughts cascade through space, refreshing it like a rain shower.
Writing fills up space and yet, empties space.
Write something that doesn’t have to grow up and be anything in particular.
Write it like an old letter, faded, rough around the edges, shades of yellow, torn edges and crinkly spots.
Writing through Crimson Spaces
One breath.
Though, I don’t dare breathe for fear of making a sound.
Mesmerized by the sound of wind in the trees. I hold my breath, listening.
Peaceful and writing forward through space.
The day’s activities have settled and faded from my mind like a silvery white airplane trail across the sky; I have travelled through space.
The mind reaches outside of myself, empties into the space, touching the room, reaching. Filling the space.
The space reaches back towards me. I listen. Ears ringing as my inner and outer space mingle.
It tingles, electric. In and out.
My breath. The space. In and out.
The wind through the window, rendered me writing. Bringing the space into being.
Turning Shades of Crimson
Over the past month, thanks to Barbara Swafford of Blogging Without a Blog, Wendi Kelly of Sirius Graphix and John Hoff of WP Blog Host, I’ve been well supported in redirecting the focus of my business. Narrowing the focus.
Another person I’d like to mention is my friend and colleague Ian Johnson. We’ve been working together, studying and practicing David Grove’s system of Symbolic Modelling and The Power of Six. Ian brings an immense amount of wisdom and authenticity to the table. He has been incredibly supportive and encouraging.
The services of Writer Sense Communications (proofreading and editing) and Crimson Compass Life Coaching will be merging into Shades of Crimson. This life coach will be coaching writers and those other creative types. Connecting with what is inside that wants to be expressed and noticing what is outside wanting to be let in.
We’ll be coaching the “space”; not the writing. The writing writes in the space of listening to the space and translating the space. Too spacey? Good :-) Cause we’ll also be stepping (or skipping) into clarity of intention. Encouraging, or in my words, rendering the creativity from the inside out and the outside in.
Coaching creativity with Shades of Crimson is rendering the write impact. Proofing and editing makes the best of the best.
I explained to Barbara:
“The common theme with the coaching/writing and the proofing (for me), is that it’s a gradual process and there is an art to it. And with my career background I’ve developed a healthy respect for the ‘process’ and each stage of the process; from brainstorming to the design concept to the writing, editing, proofing and final product. I love how each phase supports the other.
I love what the word rendering does for this. It represents the gradual process that goes into proofreading, writing and coaching. It’s about translating a message, generating an image, a flair for creativity, etc. Plus… rendering —> different ‘shades’ of crimson (or steps in the process).
The word impact is also strong because we all want to make an impact, and a writer definitely wants their words to make the ‘write impact’. Plus ‘impact’ packs a punch as the colour crimson suggests.”
What lies ahead? Coaching creativity. Adventures in ‘the’ space.
Blogging about the space. How we interact with the space. How we influence each other.
Blogging about bringing “the space” into our world. It wants to be written. Drawn. Painted. Photographed.
Blogging about process. The start. The exploration and discovery. The finish.
One breath.
Start somewhere.

Can’t wait to see how you swirl it all up. Very cool!

Hi Betsy.
Thank you. It’s only taken… TWO years!!! :-)
Hi John.
I’m breathing… thanks for the reminder, lol. Frustration and WTF am I doing? Totally winging it! Well, I know what I’m doing… but I haven’t mapped it out yet.
Hi Barbara.
Thanks! And, you’re welcome re the link love. You have been a HUGE help in coaching me to this point. Huge! I really appreciate your support.
Hi Patricia.
Thanks — glad you enjoyed this :-)
Stuck in transition eh? Those two words seem to contradict each other. I haven’t had children, but your statement makes me think about being stuck in childbirth. Am I right? ;) Wonder what is going to be born of your efforts, cause you sure are in transition, from what I’ve been reading on your blog. You’ve got a lot going on, on SO many levels.
I like your new direction. You’re perfect for coaching creative types.

Davina, your announcement is so beautiful. And congratulations on beginning to complete the researching and discovering stages of your life journey, and starting to step into the producing and delivering experience. One of the things that I say is that there are two sorts of people – the narrowly-focused experts and the broadly-integrative generalists. The former have a clear-cut life-path and curriculum – they know by the age of 10 that they are computer programmers, dancers, musicians, whatever, and they can enroll in programs and courses to train them. But the integrator has no curriculum, no courses, no school, save the university of life itself. And often it takes 10, 20 or 30 years of patient, and sometimes painful, wandering about before the picture becomes clear. And how sweet the moment when it finally arrives. Congratulations, Davina, and it has been my pleasure to be one of those who have witnessed your journey for a good 20 years. All the best with rendering and Shades of Crimson, Ian
Hi Davina .. this will be wonderful .. no trying to outdo you on the stone skipping .. just sharing in the creative art of writing .. with a few breaths thrown in.
I have to say I’m pleased to see Ian’s comments .. can we add a 40 years in there too .. my blossoming may be out – but I suspect my Ma will be nurturing me for a while yet .. so the blog will blossom and the rest will follow.
Write Shades Impact Crimson .. go girl .. love your thoughts of filling the space .. have fun – Hilary

Hi Vered.
Thanks. It feels pretty natural. I’m excited to move forward now.
Hi Ian.
I can appreciate your comment because I’m one of those who has tried a little bit of everything. It makes me feel that everything is always worth it, and to keep on going, no matter what. I have a feeling you know THIS journey well :-) Your support and encouragement has been so appreciated.
Hi Hilary.
Thank you. After all this time (maybe I’ve said it before), but I love seeing your avatar. Your expression is so upbeat and lively. You’ve done a lot of blossoming over the years :)
Hi Sara.
Passion — Yes! Thank you. I look forward to seeing where this goes for everybody. So many possibilities here. It’s going to be interesting and fun!
I haven’t commented before because I’m still trying to figure out exactly what you’re doing here. I think I’m slowly getting a handle on it. I think. I may be a little too literal-minded to fully grasp this. But, I’ll be interested in the space thing because I think we’ve all created way too much space in our individual worlds.
.-= XUP´s last blog ..Daddy Dearest =-.
Davina, I wish you every success on this new, more focused path that you’re taking. I like the idea of having the space to let creativity thrive and flourish. I certainly crave some of that all the time!
I’ll be interested to see where your soul wanderings take you. Thanks for letting us come along for the stroll. :)
Hi Davina…
Your words come across as very Fresh and Light filled as you share your intent for this stage you are in. Breathing and creativity are so connected..when my breath is full, calm, cleansing, refreshing…my projects reflect that. When my breath is harried, quick, a necessity..my projects (or lack of) reflect that.
I love space. I love to keep large spaces open, clean, full of fresh air so that I may stretch fully and enjoy the area around me. I love to see what others do with their space, how they think of space…so I am excited to see how you treat yours and encourage us to explore ours as you step forward through all of this newness..How exciting!

XUP,
Uh oh, now I’m starting to wonder just what I’ve gotten myself into. Stage fright…
“We’ve all created way too much space in our individual worlds” — meaning we’re too self-absorbed? Disconnected from the outer world? Am I understanding you correctly? If so, I agree completely.
As social media expands I see us further alienating ourselves. There is so much outer stimuli we’re becoming desensitized and creating more space ‘inside’ just to hide out. And then, because we’re so ‘disconnected’ we depend on social media to stay connected. What an oxymoron.
Tony,
I’m cyber hugging you right now :) “Where your soul wanderings take you.” Yep… exactly. There is going to be a lot of wandering and exploring. This ain’t going to be your typical creativity blog or coaching blog; that’s for sure.
Joy,
Just went from harried to… well, less harried, while reading your comment :) I literally felt myself slow down, so thank you! I bet you are well-acquainted with feng shui, the way you are talking about space. Gosh, there are so many possibilities to exploring this, aren’t there.
Years ago, while studying with a native elder I experienced how a room, when cluttered and unclean can weigh heavy on your energy level. The difference is obvious when you walk into a clean, organized room.
I love your new tag line. Well done!
I’m thrilled that you are focused now, so you can concentrate on what is right for your clients and you.
You have found your niche.
24 hours now till HAPPY 2nd Anniversary. But who’s counting? :-)
Jim,
Thanks. I’m pretty excited, too. Yep, 24 more hours. I’d best get *the* project ready to launch. Hard to believe all those weeks have already passed since I started it in April.
I am thrilled for you! And I LOVE the subtitle of your business/blog. Rendering the Write Impact is a wowie title! Double meanings always work, I think.
Your poetry, as always, touches me where I live.
Barb

I liked how you used the term “the space” in the creativity context — it sounds to me like the emptiness that comes up in moments of so-called “writer’s block” — and if I allow that emptiness to exist, the space is eventually filled with the kind of inspiration I’m looking for. But if I close down the space because I’m uncomfortable with emptiness, the ideas don’t bubble up.
Hi Barb.
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the poetry. It gets me where I live too :)
Hi Chris.
That’s a really neat way to put it. You have to slow yourself down to notice the emptiness. Gives me the image of driving down the highway at top speed. How much do you see at those high speeds?
Davina,
I love your direction and what Barbara writes is brilliant. I love the airplane trail in the sky description. Now that you have all this clarity come on over and share some;) I’m putting up a new tag line and header soon. I’m not sure how much clarity I have though.
.-= Tess The Bold Life´s last blog ..Oil Spill: Taking Personal Responsibility =-.
Hi Tess.
Oh, I can’t wait to see your new header and tagline! Er… clarity? It flew out the window about a day after I posted this. Drat! Clarity is like windows… you have to keep polishing it.
“Clarity is like windows..you have to keep polishing it”
Is that why my windows won’t stay clean? I’m supposed to keep doing them?
Davina, please excuse my tardiness on this post! It is so exciting to see the enthusiasm and focus as Shades of Crimson begins this new adventure. I know you will do well. And no worries, I am always here to help keep that clarity nice and shiny if you want to chat. Thanks for the link, it is very appreciated, always happy to help a friend. :)

Wendi,
Tell you what… you do my windows and I’ll do yours — doing my own windows is such a “pane” :-) I thought brainstorming was supposed to do the trick, but it never lasts. Oh, but then again, what would be the fun in that. Thanks for all your support so far, Wendi, and for your vote of confidence. I look forward to future chats.
