Editing & Proofreading

The level of editing you will require depends on what stage your manuscript is at. The following list will help you assess where you need to focus and with the help of an editor, your goal of self-publishing will be accomplished efficiently.

I offer a free chapter edit. Contact me for details!

Editing Phases

Manuscript review
A written review will be provided after a manuscript has been assessed with attention to syntax, grammar, flow and structure. When applicable, and specifically in the case of fiction, plot structure, character development and dialogue will be critiqued.

Structural editing
This level of editing focuses on the organization and flow of the content to ensure that information is accurate, clear and concise. In the case of fiction, plot and character development will be assessed.

Stylistic editing
Stylistic editing focuses on eliminating jargon and redundant phrasing to clarify the message, while still respecting the writer’s unique style.

Copy editing
Focus is on spelling, grammar and punctuation. Consistency of facts and mechanics will be checked, in addition to levels of headings and placement of artwork.

This final stage of the editing process is completed after the book has been laid out by the designer. All mechanics will be checked, including headers and footers, line breaks, page numbering, cross-references and table of contents. The final proofs will be compared with the original document to ensure that content flows correctly and is error-free.

Original sources will be referenced to ensure that facts and quotations are accurate.
