Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

As promised, The Quote Effect is ready and waiting for the world to download all of its wisdom. And it couldn’t have happened without each of the 32 bloggers who sent in their submissions, plus myself of course.

You guys are awesome! Thank you so much for supporting this project.

The Quote Effect is about inspiration, creativity, community and traffic – buzz words for bloggers.

When a person reads a quote that resonates with them, it appeals to their senses and tickles their thoughts. They are eased into reading with a wider perspective. Quotes invoke inspiration and add flavour to writing.

Creating this ebook has been an opportunity for bloggers to come together to share their authentic voices, and leave behind a wordy footprint for the blogosphere.

This book is a free resource that bloggers can pass around to share their quotes, their character and subsequently, a link back to their blog. Here is a list of everyone who is included in The Quote Effect.
Connect with the bloggers in this ebook.

Share this great resource on social media networks.

Display this ebook on your blog.

Invite others to share this ebook on their blog.

Upload The Quote Effect pdf to your Cpanel or website and use the following html for the cover image to link to and promote on your blog.

<img class=”alignleft size-medium wp-image-1486″ title=”qecover” src=”http://www.shadesofcrimson.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/qecover-300×300.jpg” alt=”qecover” width=”175″ height=”175″ />

Ease of navigation in this ebook

With a background in publishing I have a way with books. When I lived in Toronto, I worked for six years formatting books and appreciate seeing how a project comes together. This computer age has certainly given us limitless possibilities for layout and design. I remember the days of running out type galleys and having to paste up blocks of text on a page. Things have changed!

The Quote Effect has been designed to make your reading easier. With bookmarks and hyperlinks, you don’t have to scroll to each page. Just click on the page number in the table of contents to view that page. Or, while you are in the table of contents, click the blog link to visit its home page.

A handy index has been set up if you are searching for a particular type of quote. Again, just click on the page numbers to view the category you are interested in.

Although this ebook is a free download, I will gladly accept donations if a person is inspired to contribute.

Amazing bloggers

As some of you know, there were some technical difficulties getting this book into the pdf stage so that the hyperlinks were maintained. It was just one of those cases where I had to persevere and it paid off.

I want to thank a few people who offered their time to help me out. In particular, Evelyn from Attraction Mind Map (that’s her photograph on the cover of this ebook, by the way). She personally took my Word Document and saved it as a pdf — twice. The first time, the hyperlinks worked but the formatting was wrong and some material was missing or wonky. The second time, the formatting was unchanged, but the links would not work. I can’t thank her enough for being there and helping out. Thank you Evelyn!

I’d also like to thank Maya from Think Maya and Evita from Evolving Scenes. They also offered to take my document and work with it. Last but not least, Kathy from Virtual Impax you are a goddess! She suggested I try a different software program. My Word document converted to this new program with a few formatting issues that I had to fix, but most importantly, the links work and I’m back in the game. Kathy, you are the best! An updated version of Adobe Acrobat is now on my shopping list.

Ebook design — hire me

Are you working on an ebook? If you like what you see here, consider hiring me to design, format or edit your ebook. I’ll get the job done.

If you are working on an ebook or want to start one, but you feel stuck, hire me and receive two complimentary coaching sessions to boost your progress.

This ebook took just a day and half to design and format. If you would like to work with me, please contact me for a quote.

“Curiosity lifts the corners of life.”

Julie from Random Meanderings

When you jump to conclusions you miss a lot. You lose opportunities to connect with people, and they with you. You lose a chance to connect with yourself.

Last year, during a life coach training workshop I was doing a practice exercise with one of my colleagues. We were talking about goals and dreams — you know, the usual stuff. We were standing in a corner of the room. A dozen or so other pairs were practicing the same exercise at the same time.

I was feeling self-conscious about asking the “right” questions — judging my performance and doubting my coaching abilities. I was focusing on myself instead of her.

This is described as Level One Thinking. In Level Two Thinking a coach is aware of the client and what they are saying.

In Level Three Thinking intuition encourages a stronger focus. The coach is not only aware of what the other person is saying. They are aware of the tone of their voice and the expression on their face. They notice posture and gestures. They tune into the whole experience. Observing these clues gives their subconscious mind the ability to connect at a deeper level. Questions flow naturally.

Through this connection the listening is magnified and the perspective is opened. The mind surrenders and both people can support the process in a stronger, more authentic way. Judgment gives way to curiosity. And curiosity opens the door to value.

My friend had used the metaphor of a bird’s nest to describe a feeling she had about a goal and how she was going to manifest it.

When she mentioned the bird’s nest I assumed that it was made of twigs. Simple, until I had a curious moment. I dared to be different and asked a silly question.

“What does this nest look like?”

She hadn’t even considered that. Even she had assumed it looked like a bird’s nest. We were both limiting ourselves with that assumption.

Asking that question opened her mind and took her deeper into the experience to explore her goal further. This helped her uncover more possibilities for herself.

As it turns out, the nest was made of soft, colourful blankets. I could feel her focus on the goal strengthen. Her enthusiasm increased as she described what the nest looked like. It was being revealed to both of us at the same time. We were both beyond Level Three Thinking. We were just being.

Your curiosity impacts others

During the busyness of our conversations, we do not often hear what each other is saying. We nod our heads. Share an understanding “yes” or “no”. But in turn, we are thinking about what our response will be. Or what their response will be. And most likely they are doing the same thing. It’s a dance.

This dance keeps us on the surface. It’s chocked full of assumptions. Imagine if we were to awaken our curiosity, how much deeper our connections could go. What more we could learn. How much we could add to each others lives.

We would feel seen and heard and encourage this in others. Society could benefit with simple curiosity. It would add more value to our lives.

A person never knows what they’re missing until they go there. And they can’t go there if they assume they are already there.

What about you? Can you recognize how curiosity could add more value to your life? On what level of thinking do you spend most of your time?

The Quote Effect was launched in December of 2008.

This is an invitation to bloggers to submit up to 3 of their favourite original quotes from their blogs, or write new ones. Read more here.

Photographers and artists are encouraged to submit some of their original work. I’d like to hear your suggestions for a cover design too.

I will compile submissions into an ebook. The deadline for submissions is January 31.

There will be no affiliate links in this first edition. This is strictly for bloggers to promote their blogs and share their unique personalities through their writing and creative expression.

We want the hilarious, the sarcastic, the thinkers, the doers, the writers, the serious, the health nuts.

If you have already left a comment with me to say “count me in” I will be emailing you a submission form to make this easy for you.

If this is the first you’ve heard of this project, please contact me to let me know of your interest and I will email you the submission form. Choose The Quote Effect as the subject.

Quotes have impact.

They widen our perspective and tickle our creative awareness. They quiet our mind and invite us to read more.

Bloggers use quotes to illustrate a point and catch the reader’s attention. They make us laugh, roll our eyes – our thoughts drift away or come awake.

They add that personal, authentic touch, and whether you blog for a hobby or for business, authenticity speaks volumes. It attracts attention.

When are you being authentic? What might be hidden in your archives or on your welcome page? What about the comment section in your blog or comments you’ve left on other blogs. Fellow bloggers are sharing a wealth of gold in these sections of their blogs too.

Let them know they’ve inspired you and invite them to share some of their quotes in this collection. Tell them all about it.

Submissions are starting to arrive already and I will be featuring a new one each week during the month of January.

I have received this first one from Miguel de Luis at Wisdom & Life.

“Generosity is of the brave.”

Thanks Miguel!

Inspiring project for bloggers.

Welcome!

If you’re here from Loving Pulse that’s awesome! If you’re new, I’m happy to see you here. You’ve joined the party for the first post on Shades Of Crimson.

I’m about to share an idea for a community blogging project. Here goes…

Bloggers use a lot of quotes right? Quotes are inspiring and generate good response. They illustrate a point, draw the reader’s attention to the theme of the post and they have a strong impact. They also generate ideas for other writing.

I’m proposing that we bloggers come together to write some of our own quotes. I will compile them into a free online resource that can be downloaded and shared with as many folk as are interested.

This would be good keepsake to remind you of bloggers who have come and gone. And it would be a fabulous writing resource too.

I’d like your feedback on what I’ve come up with so far and we can tweak along the way.

1. This book would be divided into categories such as: inspirational, humour, philosophical, health, religious/spiritual, business, etc.

2. Entries would include your name, the name of your blog and a short intro about it’s niche.

3. You can submit up to 3 entries, noting which category each is for.

4. Each entry would outline what the inspiration was: What you were doing, who you were with, etc. It can also be a dedication to someone in your life.

5. There would be a short paragraph explaining what creative process (if any) you used to come up with the quote.

6. Should we include photos? If we do, they must be used with permission.

7. Use of these quotes around the blogosphere would result in a link back to the author and their blog, and make note of The Quote Effect.

8. The book must be promoted on your blog; we’ll decide for how long.

9. All quotes of course, must be original. They can be something you’ve already written or you can write something new.

10. I’m proposing a deadline of January 31st for submissions. I’d like to have the book ready for Valentine’s Day, if possible.

Let creativity drop in.

So, over this holiday season pay attention to what inspires you. Or what doesn’t for that matter. Cheekiness and sarcasm is welcome. Marinate with this idea. Notice when you are feeling inspired and revved up – or not. Let the momentum of the holidays and thoughts for the new year move you to write.

By the way, if your muse is on holidays you can still get in the groove. Until January 31st I’m offering FREE 20-minute meditations on phone or Skype. Sorry, downloads not available yet, but will come in the new year.

Increased recognition and traffic to your blog.

Imagine your quotes being used around the blogosphere and having your links flying around. If this project generates enough interest, I will organize another one for 2010. We’ll see.

So, that is the project. What do you think? Do you have anything to add or other suggestions? Leave your comments and questions and let’s see what we can come up with as a group. Or contact me choosing The Quote Effect as the Subject.

Once the details are organized, I will send out an email to confirm.
